This is a private residence for a family of 4 in rural Orange County, NC.

The family consists of a successful couple in an artistic field and their two young children.  They wanted all rooms on the first floor with the exception of the playroom which could be upstairs.  A good connection to the exterior was desired in the main rooms.  The solution orients all rooms except the kids’ bedrooms and guest room toward the view with the exterior spaces linked by a “bridge” walkway.  The main deck is private and off the master bedroom and master bath.  The “bridge” portion of the deck then leads to the screen porch, which is one of the most important spaces in the southern US house archetype.

The interior main space is one large space designed for maximum connectivity.  The bedrooms are tucked in off a daylit hall lined with bookcases so that it will be a pleasant artery.
