Commercial Renovation:

Kuhn & Associates Financial Office, Durham, NC

 

​This project consisted of a complete architectural renovation of the interior of a suite of offices.

The original building dated from the early 1980s.  We removed walls strategically to open up the spaces and reorganized areas accordingly.

 

The owner gave the directive:  "I can't have too much color" and often would say "More color!"

 

This gave us freedom to pursue a vibrant scheme overall.  The public spaces were then given bright and optimistic colors.  Each staff member picked their favorite color for their own private office.  

 

We chose the furniture, lighting and also sourced artwork for the spaces.  I was able to find a great vintage modernist piece at the Palm Springs Modernist show that fit perfectly in the lobby.

 

On this project I had the pleasure of teaming up with brilliant colorist and designer, Julie Staelin.  



The old offices were rather dull, with not much light or color except for a "hospital green". 



The new offices are open and airy, bursting with fresh vibrant colors.  The staff says it makes them happy, and there is no greater reward for a designer!
