The Miller McWeeney house ("Miller-Mac House" for short) perches on the edge of a very steep mountain site.  This house  is for PJ, a musician, and Katie, an artist.  This great couple has never had enough studio, kitchen or work space before.  We are trying to remedy that in this house!

We are hugging the flat part of this really steep site and putting two spacious studios underneath the living spaces along with loading zones on each end (see above).  The loading zones create sight-lines and open air spaces within the entire volume. It makes a positive-negative composition we like!  Let's hear it for loading zones!

This talented couple also excels at professional bread baking.  On the upper level we have planned a well daylit kitchen where they can host cooking classes.

 

Our goal for all our houses is always to be net zero or net positive or at the very least, net zero ready for easy conversion in the future.  That plus rooftop water collection for gardening should make this a very sustainable house for this great couple.
