This is the third house we've designed on Arthur Minnis Rd. in Hillsborough, NC. This particular house uses the Japanese principle of Shakkei, which is the principle of borrowed landscape. In this case, we are borrowing a view of a neighboring farm's pond.
The house stretches along the east-west axis to allow most of the daylight from the south and north -- where the pond view is.
The house was designed to fit the owner and their family member who is living with them. The central part of the house is the gathering spot, with kitchen, dining, living and access to the screen porch and pool. The guest rooms are separated from the primary suite to provide as much privacy as possible.
Materials include heat treated pine siding, poured concrete on the exterior. On the interior, different stone countertops and different tiles add a richness and an individuality to the spaces. Stay tuned for more pics soon.
