This is the first of three houses we have designed, or are in the process of designing, on Whitfield Road in Chapel Hill.

 

We call this project "Mostly Decks with Some House"!  This family loves to live outdoors, hence we have terraces off each bedroom, off the office, off the main living spaces, with a screen porch connecting and also a roof deck.  They said the screen porch was the most important space to them, and we made that happen.  It is an "Escher-like" (quoting the GC) space with stairs connecting up and down, to the dog yard and the roof deck.  We situated this very important room on east side, so that evening gatherings would not be blasted by the punishing western sun.  NC gets regular 100 degree days now in the summers, so it's important to design with that in mind.

The interior has 4 bedrooms, 2 offices, a very open living-dining-kitchen space, a large gym in the basement and of course, the roof terrace is the cherry on top!
