NOWZAD - Fighting the Fight for Animals In war torn areas
One of the noblest animal charities on the planet is the venerated NOWZAD, which saves innocent animals in war torn areas like Ukraine and Afghanistan. Started by British Royal Marine Commando Pen Farthing, one of the most altruistic and kind people on earth and one of my all time heroes. Nowzad was the name of the town in Afghanistan, where Pen and his fellow soldiers found themselves in 2007 surrounded by stray, starving animals with no one to help them.

In an Afghani war zone in 2007, Pen and his fellow soldiers found legions of stray animals with no one to help them. From this point, a movement was started to help these innocent creatures, who are the casualties of humanitie's endless wars.

Here are a few of NOWZAD's accomplishments -- this list is from their website.
Started Afghanistan's first small animal veterinary clinic and animal shelter
The Nowzad charity mission was to provide;
Care and treatment for injured dogs and cats.
A dog shelter for around 150 dogs whilst waiting to be rehomed (Sadly, since the Taliban takeover of the country in 2021 we are not permitted to have a large scale dog sanctuary)
A Working Animal Program to provide treatment for working donkeys, horses and mules.
Animal husbandry education for the owners of working animals.
A cattery for 40 cats whilst waiting to be rehomed.
Rabies education in local schools.
Rabies prevention through TNVR programs.
Soldier companion animal rescue for coalition troops.
A donkey sanctuary for former working animals.
Employment and training for Afghan nationals which included the first ever female veterinarians.
In 2021 Nowzad had a full time staff in Afghanistan of 24 Afghan nationals providing animal welfare services for both the local community and ex-pat organisations including embassies and security organisations.
